Hi Amy,

Glad to hear the garden is doing well. As for the Powder Puff, since yours is small, I recommend you cut the drooping branches back quite a bit, about half their length. They will bifurcate, creating more branches and help to fill out the plant. Do this periodically as the branches elongate until you have a fullness you like for the tree.

As for the Lady of the Night, it blooms between winter and summer and will bloom more as it matures. Be sure it is getting well watered. You may want to give it a fresh top dressing of composted animal manure and remulch as well, to add nutrients.

The difference in your Butterfly Gingers has to do with where they are planted. The one near your pool is planted in full sun. Full sun plants will often have lighter colored smaller leaves, while plants getting more shade will have darker colored larger leaves.

Hope this helps.

Hi! Have a couple of questions- should we be trimming the ends of the powderpuff tree branches? They are super long- most touching the ground. The lady of the night has not bloomed at all- should we do anything to it? The butterfly ginger planted NW of the pool (in the full sun) is pretty puny and washed out in comparison to the one on the side garden which is huge. Everything else is doing fine. Thanks!
